Isaac Tosslin
Character Basics
Home Planet: Earth
Playby: James Denton
Age: 31
Nickname/Codename(s): Collateral
Alignment: Good
Appearances Are Everything
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair: Brown
Civilian Attire: Isaac’s day to day wear generally consists of a T-shirt and jeans combination. Nothing too flashy.
Costume:When out and about as his alter-ego Collateral, Isaac’s costume consists of a full body suit of grey. The suit is adorned with steel body armour consisting of a face mask he modeled after something he saw in a video game, gauntlets, steel plates covering his boots and a harness to carry The Hammer.
Scars/Tattoos/Marks: Isaac as no noticeable marks, scars or tattoos
What Makes You Tick?
Powers:
- Thick Skin: Isaac is gifted with what could be described as superhuman durability. His bones and muscular tissue can withstand damage that would turn the average bone into dust and tissue into paste. For instance, being hit by a car moving at about 60km/h would cause pedestrian fractures, internal damage and possible death for an average human being, but for Isaac, it would cause a painful shock and a large bruise. In the end the car would probably sustain more damage than Isaac. His skin also functions as a type of full body Kevlar vest. It is capable of stopping 9mm bullets, causing them to embed themselves in his skin, rather than piercing it.
- Pain Tolerance: With super durability, comes high pain tolerance. Isaac can still feel pain, it is just deadened to a degree that he could walk off being hit by the car described above. A bullet would have the same impact force to Isaac as it would someone wearing a bullet proof vest.
- Inertial Amplification: Isaac’s body is capable amplifying kinetic energy. In layman’s terms, Isaac can move very fast with minimal effort. It takes him awhile to get to his top speed of 40 miles/h, but once he gets going, he essentially becomes a juggernaut, an unstoppable force (so to say). Combined with his durability, this means that at top speed Isaac can easily plow through a parked half-ton truck without losing too much speed or any serious injuries.
Weaknesses:
- Limitations of Thick Skin: Regardless how impenetrable Isaac’s skin may seem, it does have it’s weaknesses. Acids and bases will burn his skin just as it would anyone else. Fire and electricity work in just the same manner as they would if Isaac were average. Slashing weapons also have the profound effect of voiding Isaac’s Thick Skin guarantee. While Isaac’s skin can stop bullets, it can only stop so many before it gives in. 5 or 6 bullets is about the limit for an area the size of his torso before the skin is too damaged.
- Average rate of healing: Any wounds that Isaac picks up from day-to-day heal as fast as what could be considered the normal rate.
- Drawbacks of Inertial Amplification: Once Isaac gets going he really has a hard time stopping. Coming to a dead stop at top speed would send him flying about seventy feet crashing along the ground. Another drawback is the fact that Isaac senses are average. This means when moving at a speed of 40 miles/h looking through two small eye holes, things become a bit hard too distinguish. This results in a lot of unplanned crashes and property damage.
Weapons:
- The Suit: All of that metal isn’t just for show, well some of it is but that is beside the point. The metal gauntlets and boots can turn a normal fist or foot into the last thing you see before waking up the next day in a puddle of your own blood.
- The Hammer: A standard, run of the mill sledgehammer that Collateral carries on him at all times to deal with tough customers.
Unique Skills:
- Isaac was a trained professional wrestler in the days before his powers. With his knowledge of various grapples and tosses Isaac is a nightmare to fight face to face. He also brings a type of “smash mouth” style of fighting to the table. He will not hesitate to deliver a blazing headbutt, a jaw shattering uppercut or a swift kick to the lower regions to beat his opponent. The combination of technical grapples and powerful brawling potential makes Isaac not only dangerous, but also unpredictable.
- Due to his past as a wrestler, Isaac has kept his body in the same shape as it was when he was on the card. His strength is well above average compared to a normal person’s, but has its limits (about 400 lbs).
- Isaac considers himself as being a rather handy guy, (after all, he did make most of his suit himself). He can use pretty much any power tool handed to him with relative precision and ease. He will always insist fix things on his own rather than calling in some “trained professional”.
Character Information
Character Personality:
Isaac could generally be described as an all-around friendly guy. He’s never one to judge someone by the way that they look or anything of that sort. While he’d never go out and try to make friends with everyone that he meets, he always treats people with a relaxed attitude. Isaac may seem a bit too relaxed at moments, sometimes to go so far as to seem emotionless. This is far from the truth. Isaac generally keeps his emotions to himself, very few people have ever seen him breakdown. If one were to call Isaac stubborn they would be quite correct, although he would never admit that. Once Isaac is convinced of something, he will reject almost every other point of view unless he’s physically proven wrong (which happens more than he’d like to admit). Even though Isaac is handy and a nice guy, he isn’t really the sharpest knife in the drawer. He’ll often go into situations without really considering what could happen to him, but will always attempt to follow things out to the end once they start.
Isaac becomes a totally different person when he slips the mask on. Collateral is a loud, boisterous avenger of the wronged and defender of the weak. He cracks jokes at the criminals while he selflessly helps those that the offenders prey on. It almost seems that a different person takes the reigns of Isaac once the mask comes on and that Isaac is only in the back seat. This is anything but true.
Behind the mask of Collateral, Isaac could be described as uncomfortable. He always second guesses himself and criticizes his actions to even the smallest thing. He does not want to tarnish the name of Collateral by something that he has done. He knows that vigilantism is punishable by law and is regarded as a menace by most of the denizens of the world, but he rejects that belief. He knows that what he is doing is right, even though everyone says otherwise.
Character History:
Born into a poor family in a slum of New York, Isaac had a “below” average childhood. He got every piece of clothing from his older brothers and every toy, plaything and otherwise from the same source. His father, James Tosslin, worked as a mechanic at the docks and was often seen with his youngest son in tow. He would let the child help him with “big jobs”, such as screwing in bolts or moving some scrap metal, all the really important stuff. Through out the years these jobs became more of a hobby to the young boy.
Once in high school, Isaac put these hobbies to good use, taking every auto, manufacturing and construction class that he could. Through a near freak accident, Isaac discovered his second passion in life, wrestling. During lunchtime on that faithful day, the school bully was going on a “food tax” run. When he got to Isaac, Isaac refused to let a morsel of his sandwich be confiscated. This prompted the Tax Man to proceed to engage in physical competition with the young Isaac. Isaac then tossed the offender to the ground and forced him to call for his father’s brother. The teacher on duty just happened to be the wrestling coach and made a deal with Isaac that he would join the wrestling team and Isaac’s parents wouldn’t get a phone call regarding this violent occasion. With that began a passion that would lead to Isaac’s future career (or one of them at least). At the end of four years of high school, Isaac ended up being the only son of James and Harriet Tosslin that would get a high school diploma.
Fresh out of high school and brimming with potential Isaac chose the path of his dream, to become a professional wrestler and be in the WWF one day. He started small, getting hired by a small local promotion wrestling under the name of “Boris the Destroyer”. He was teamed with a fellow by the name of “Yuri the Terrible”. If you haven’t guessed by now, they were supposed to be “evil Russians”. This whole shtick didn’t really get him a lot of respect, so he dropped it like a hot potato. As the years went on, Isaac developed a character all his own; a hot shot masked wrestler by the name of Collateral. The character was originally an off-shoot on the common “loser leaves town, comes back with a mask” character, but was given new life during a match where Isaac managed to knock out both of his opponents and his tag team partner in a single move. The ring side announcer was quoted as saying: “Lord Almighty! Look at that collateral damage!”
As the years moved on, getting slammed, bludgeoned and smashed was taking its toll on Isaac’s body. With that realization, Isaac took a break from his passion to find a “real” job. After floating from dead end job to dead end job, Isaac finally settled on a career; Bartender. Working as the night bartender in the “Last Stop”, Isaac made a decent living. But with old injuries acting up and bills piling up, Isaac could barely afford his rent. While leafing through his bills one morning, Isaac came across a possible solution to his problems. The piece of paper he had picked out was an advertisement for experimental injections designed to “make your pain disappear”. Those four words were enough to catch his attention; the pay got him to call the number.
A week after his call, Isaac sat in the waiting room to get his “miracle injection”. The doctor called his name, gave him a pen and he proceeded to sign a pile of waivers. “We here at... not responsible for possible sight loss, aches, pains, arthritis... strokes, cardiac arrest, allergic reaction or death”. Isaac flipped through the waivers, pausing on a few of the conditions, before silently agreeing with them and gave the papers his John Hancock. With the first injection nothing really happened, the second injection made his vision swim and give him a light-headed feeling. Once the doctor injected him with the third needle, Isaac’s sight faded. The doctor assured him it was just the chemicals reacting with his brain. Sure enough after a few moments of panic filled darkness Isaac’s vision blurred back into focus. The doctor required Isaac to remain at the facility over night so that he could observe any “discrepancies” that might occur.
After a night free of any startling observations, the doctors let Isaac return home as they had agreed. About 5 blocks away from his home Isaac remembered something from the contract he signed that had something to do with involuntary seizure of his person if anything strange were to happen. Without paying much attention to what was going on around him, Isaac walked into the intersection and was promptly rammed dead on by a speeding Cadillac. Isaac was tossed over the speeding vehicle and landed hard on his back. The driver slammed on her brakes and approached the man she had just hit. Isaac slowly pushed himself up off the ground and looked around. Why was there a crowd gathering around him and why was he in the middle of the road? As he stumbled to his feet, the crowd took steps back. As he approached the woman who hit him to ask what exactly had just happened, she screamed calling him one of “them”. This threw the crowd into a panic, people running and screaming, trying to get away from the terror they had just discovered. Hearing sirens in the background Isaac ran from the scene. As he ran, Isaac noticed that he was picking up a lot of speed. He reached his house in half the time it usually took him to run home. Entering his apartment, his mind was racing a mile a minute. He sat on at his kitchen table staring at the wall for at least an hour before doing something. Slowly walking to his stove, he pulled a frying pan from the bottom drawer and slammed himself in the face with it. Nothing. Just the force of it moving his head, no pain.
He kept these “powers” to himself for around a week, until he told one of his friends, who was a “freak” herself. She gave him the idea that would change his life forever: “Why don’t you become a superhero?” He hadn’t thought of it until that moment. The dream that every person had as a child was sitting before him, plain as day, ready for him to take. Without much thought, Isaac jumped right in and began to make a costume. After about of week of hard work buying the supplies and making some special bits, the suit had been completed to perfection. He had the will, he had the suit, and all he needed was a name. Searching through a box of “nostalgic” items and stumbled upon a ragged old mask. Looking at the tattered, stained piece of cloth was all he needed to complete the transformation. The rebirth of Collateral had commenced.

The Sample:
A lone figure stood on a rooftop overlooking the maze of alleyways and streets in the dimly lit surrounding below. That lone figure fidgeted uncomfortably, adjusting his mask and suit, waiting for the city to call out to him. As if on cue, a scream rose up from the streets below. The figure paused for a moment, checking his suit, before bounding across the rooftop towards the source of the alert. Slowing down enough as to not fall off the edge, the figure peered down at the scene unfolding below. Three men surrounded a single woman with what seemed to be malevolent content.
“Alright, I can do this. I am the man. This is all me.”
The figure repeated these words to itself three more times before vaulting the edge of the roof and plummeting 7 stories to the ground. The three men whipped around as the figure slammed into the ground, throwing up a cloud of dust and debris. The figure slowly stood up right and started to walk towards the three offenders. The trio looked to each other for an answer which, as each of them found, they held in their hands. The first of the men bull rushed the figure with an iron pipe clutched in his fists. With a mighty swing, the attacker brought the piece of refined metal down one the shoulder of the figure. The pipe did not send the figure to the ground, rather the pipe bent on its shoulder. In one swift motion, the figure replied to the man’s hostility with a headbutt, the fracturing of the man’s skull audible to his cohorts.
“Looks like your friend’s thick skull didn’t really help him there. Go figure.”
The second man pulled what seemed to be a machete from under his coat and goaded the figure to come and get him. Under the mask, a smile crossed the figure’s lips. Reaching behind his head, the figure pulled out something unexpected: a sledgehammer. With his weapon of choice in hand, the figure slowly approached the knife wielding man. The man lunged forward, in an attempt to knock the figure down. The man soon found that the figure had dodged his advance and now held the grip of the hammer under his chin. The man struggled to escape from the hold the figure had placed him in. His vision blurred and faltered before his body went limp in the figure’s arms.
“Nighty night, tough guy.”
As the figure turned around, he was just able to catch a glimpse of the third man taking off down the alleyway. Sliding the hammer back into its harness on his back, the figure took off right after him. It only took a few moments for the figure to catch up to the man and almost overtake him. The man turned his head briefly towards his pursuer and a look of fear flickered across his features. Speeding up, the figure overtook his target and slid to a stop about 10 feet in front of his prey. Sticking his arm out in a horizontal manner, the figure caught the man running full speed, delivering a clothesline with deadly force.
The figure dragged the third man back to the original scene of the crime. Dropping him at the feet of the woman, the figure chuckled.
“And that, my friend, is why we don’t run away.” The figure gave the woman a kind salute and began to walk away. Pausing for a moment, the figure turned back to the woman. “You tell your everyone that Collateral is here to help. Whenever there is a person in need, I will be there. Wherever a man, woman or child is in danger, I will be there. If there is trouble, I will there.” As he stopped his speech, Collateral realized the woman had run away and the fact that he made himself look like a complete idiot. Shaking his head and slowly walking down the alley, Collateral mumbled something to himself.
“Smooth move, Isaac...”
